For the past few years a few close friends and I have chosen a word of the year to focus on. This practice came into my life in a time where I really needed it – and hopefully this is a sign for you that this practice is coming along at just the right time too. ย My first year doing this exercise my word of the year was “patience” and that very same year I met my husband. Now, this isn’t to say that everyone who does this is going to have a magical outcome, but it’s a good story and a great accountability tool nonetheless!
For my own personal 2022 word of the year many came to mind that had a common theme. Do I choose organization? Routine? Structure? I found a way to weave all of this into the great purpose and word that kept being whispered to me over and over again – peace.
2022 word of the year:
peace – freedom, a quiet and calm state of mind, harmony
Everything comes back to “peace” for me personally, and organization, routine, and structure definitely play a part in that. So do boundaries, choices, and faith. Last year was a frantic year to say the least. It was overwhelmingly nonstop busy. And while I’m so thankfully for that overwhelmingly nonstop busy period, this year I’m shifting my personal and professional focus to a peaceful one. I’m hoping this will give me the time needed to allow myself to hit the reset button.
In the past I’ve suggested printing your word out and framing it or writing it down and placing it somewhere you routinely are. One year I had my word propped up by my kitchen sink, and another year it lived by the coffee machine. The point is to place your word of focus somewhere you’ll repeatedly see it day after day. I prefer to place my word somewhere I’ll see it every morning so I can start my day with that intention and this year is no different. I’ve pinned it to one of my design boards in my office, a space where I spend most all of my mornings.
Everyone on The Highpoint House team is participating in the 2022 word of the year practice as well! Some of their words include: hope, foundation, focus, and change. It’s not too late to select a 2022 word of the year of your own. If you’d like to participate, feel free to let us know what word you choose! We’d love to be able to encourage you as you shape your year.
